We frequently get asked for tips and pointers on how to improve security practices in a business and ways of sharing that information among staff. Knowledge is power after all.

Cyber threats are not just an issue for large enterprises. According to the UK Government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2024, almost six in ten medium-sized businesses and seven in ten large organisations experienced at least one cyber incident in the past year. While phishing remains the most common attack vector, ransomware and supply chain attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

The financial and reputational impact can be severe. IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2023 revealed that the average cost of a data breach in the UK now exceeds £3.4 million. For smaller businesses, even a single breach could threaten survival, highlighting the importance of proactive security measures.

Posters as Everyday Training Aids

While formal training is essential, simple visual reminders can make a big difference. Research from the SANS Institute suggests that repeated exposure to security reminders can cut risky behaviour by up to 30%. A well-designed poster displayed in common areas – or shared digitally in remote workplaces – reinforces best practices and keeps cyber security front of mind.

Turning Awareness into Action

Employees remain the first line of defence. Encouraging staff to follow a few golden rules can significantly reduce risk:

  • Create strong, unique passwords and use a password manager to keep track of them.

  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible – Microsoft estimates MFA can prevent over 99% of automated account takeover attempts.

  • Keep devices and software updated to close off vulnerabilities.

  • Think before you click – with more than 90% of breaches beginning via phishing, email vigilance is critical.

By combining engaging awareness materials like posters with simple, actionable security steps, businesses can foster a culture where cyber security is second nature.
