Smart new network for smart new headquarters

In July 2013, financial services company Lifetime Wealth Management , one of the UK’s leading wealth advisory firms, approached us to design them a network for their new headquarters in St. Albans city centre. Just a short walk from their existing office, the  premises on Upper Marlborough Road is a newly refurbished Victorian property with an impressive double bay-fronted, period exterior extended to the rear with modern office floor space. Brief The company required a completely new data and voice network at the site that was about to undergo a plush office fit-out. New glass partitioning was being installed to create light and airy consultation rooms as well as modern, open-plan break out areas and a large board/training room. The 30-plus staff, many of whom are financial advisors, required reliable and fast internet access for their cloud-based financial services software and hosted e-mail platform. Lync 2013 client crashes shortly after starting up following upgrade to Windows 8.1


After applying the update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the Lync 2013 client stops responding shortly after it started up.

Checking the event log shows lync.exe crashed with faulting module ‘unknown’

Updating Lync and Office to the latest cumulative updates as well as uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.


Go to your computer manufacturer’s website and update all driver packages for your computer, especially:

- Audio drivers

- Bluetooth drivers

- System chipset drivers
