Last week, we had a scammer email one of us pretending to be me. The email went to Simon Lunness and requested that he arrange a large (phoney) payment be made from the company account. Being somebody that goes around preaching about good IT security, Simon wasn't fooled for a second, plus I don't even use an iPhone. We had some fun with the guy, who wasn't even smart enough to conceal his identity and was quite easy to find online, even some directorships to businesses that Simon names (We have masked his details, of course. We are decent).

We have informed the authorities, who, until now, haven't paid much interest in it. This goes to show just how prevalent this kind of thing is, so we thought we would post it here as a warning to others. We hope you enjoy the funny-side of it, but get the serious message that this is happening far and wide right now and people are losing lots of money.

Be alert!

Scroll to the bottom and read on up.

OK. Bresslaw has just walked out and said he won't be returning until next week when you are back because of my behaviour. He also let slip Bernard is filing a case against me as well. As he left, he opened his drawer and took out my sausages. He then put them in his bag and said "Free sausages tonight" . That is against the law.
I am now here on my own until Dave and Chas get back.
Can you at least confirm the payment is all right. I may have made a mess of the other bits with staff although you must agree it is really not my fault.

Right. You may get an email for Bresslaw later as well. He wanted to call you but I told him straight down the line. This is my responsibility, you have personally asked me and there could well be a changing of staff and promotions for those of us willing to put the time in and stay late. I may have used the C word a couple of times and I know that is wrong but he gets me so mad. Also, I swear I saw my findus sausages in his draw although he slammed it shut and then said he was too busy to open it.

The payment is done and sorry about the swearing. Feel so emotional about this, it's my big chance to show you how good I am.

Even though he is a sausage stealing fool, Bresslaw just asked why the number is now 19900? This is 20 more than first time and 100 less than last time. He is ready to pay right now. Should I get him to subtract the numbers from bill. Which bill, is it the first one or the second. The first one was the one on the original email but I can delete the second and third payments from the second figure unless that took into account the earlier payment against the first one. Even if I subtract the first two payments from the second one I don't seem to arrive at the third bill which I am guessing is already adjusted?  I forgot the third bill at the beginning there.
Should have paid more attention in school lol! Can you just give me a figure that doesn't cause little beads of sweat to form on his sausage stealing bald spot. Why doesn't it add up?

Unbelievable. Someone has now taken MY sausages and I can promise you they were very clearly marked. This office is becoming too stressful for me to work in. James, this is very important. I needed those sausages for my lunch. They haven't even been cooked as there is no smell.
Why would someone do this? It's always a carry on with Bresslaw and I just know it is him. Bernard and him are like two sides of a coin and even Sidney always cackles at their jokes.
I am hungry and supposed to fuel myself so I can do my work better.
Not happy!

James, I am typing this very quietly on my mobile in the toilets but how can people makes such mistakes. All David and Chas do all day is rabbit away together, Bernard is a complete fucking liability (excuse language but I am very emotional about the best for the company). You can see the proof from Chas but I do have one good idea. Why don't you sack Bernard and give me half his wages? I will work very hard for you and make sure he's never missed and you save half of his wages as well. Good idea?
Can you check with client, that payment looks ok as you can see. I will do everything I can to explain to them if you like

I wonder how many times that happens but all I get is an official complaint about some sausages that were clearly not marked. I feel distressed by all of this James. Can we have a sausage based meeting when you get back please.

Also, I am sorry if I am stressing you, I know you are normally so polite but I can see the frustration in your writing. How much do we need to pay and I will get Chas to do it

OK I am off! I have left voicemail messages for Bernard although I don’t think he will respond. I know that Bresslaw is in from 9am or I could ask Chas or David? Should we make the payment first thing? Bernard has set up the payee so I am sure one of the guys could make a payment. I wish they didn’t all leave at 5pm EXACTLY every day. I have stayed late to try and sort this out but I am really not sure what to do

Shall I get them to do the payment first thing now the payee is set up? Is it definitely only £1.98? I promise you I did tell him.

James, I can’t check I am really sorry but I don’t want to login to the bank, if something is wrong then Bernard will try and blame me like he always does (By the way, what are you supposed to do if someone puts sausages in the company fridge and then doesn’t mark them! How can that be a fair complaint against me, I thought they were for everybody. Did you see the mail yesterday on this? Please can you make sure he understands)

I have tried his mobile now but it goes to voicemail. You know what he is like though, he will never respond after hours. Should I get the login for you? I cant think of what else to do  but I need to leave soon myself, you know about my responsibilities to my dad. I can stay till 6pm at the most but that is the latest, sorry!

Yes, I told him £19,980. Why do you say £1.98? Don’t tell me he has made a mistake again. What will happen if we cant do

I can ask him to check the bank for proof of payment. He is back in tomorrow but I think he has ANOTHER doctor appointment first thing so he won’t be back at a desk until probably 10.30am.

If you like I can send you the online login to make the payment check yourself? I think it is in Bernard’s book on the desk but I don’t want to log in myself in case I do something wrong! I am supposed to leave myself but tell me what to do and I will stay late. What will happen if the payment is wrong?

(Please can we get rid of Bernard, he is always making a big fucking problem every day and who has so much time off with doctors!)

I am really stressed now,

Bernard wants to know who to allocate the payment against. He says the account shows data as Company X, Company Y, Company Z or Company Q?

I don’t recognise these but said to Bernard you have authorised this personally. Who does the payment go to? Is the address reference going to be:
